Vale Ian Stuart

Cricket Victoria has received the sad news that former first class umpire Ian Stuart passed away yesterday aged 88.

Ian Stuart was a very popular and competent umpire. He officiated in 227 VCA 1st XI matches, including three Finals, in 1962-63, 1963-64 and 1964-65, all with the legendary Bill Smyth at the other end. Ian also umpired 12 first class matches and, since 1973, was a life member of the VCA Umpires' & Scorers' Association.
Following his retirement, Ian was a regular attendee at Premier matches around Melbourne. His love of the game was obvious and extended to a number of Crusaders tours, with his wife Joan, to the UK over the years.

Cricket Victoria extends sincere condolences to the Stuart family and to his myriad of friends around the cricketing fraternity.
