Patto ends Tigers' season

A sensational spell of fast bowling by Darren Pattinson has effectively ended Richmond's season. The Tigers, sent in at Shepley Oval, were 3/78 when Pattinson unleashed a wonderful spell, dismissing Weeks (8), Carters (20), Sartori (0) and Chalkley (0) in the space of two overs to reduce Richmond to 7/80. Despite a generous 30 extras, Richmond could only manage 119.

With Brett Forsyth recovering from injury for much of 2012-13, today was the first time Tom Donnell (46*) and Forsyth (35*) have opened for the Panthers this season. The pair took up where they left off in 2011-12, adding an unbroken stand of 82 for the first wicket.

Gun Wyndhamvale recruit Trent Lawford continued his sensational first season for North Melbourne with a maiden Premier century against Carlton. Coming in at number six, Lawford smashed 113 off just 85 balls, with 7 fours and 7 sixes. Good support from James Damjanovski (54), Matthew Love (50) enabled the Kangaroos to register a competitive 269.

With just four overs to face before the close, Lawford continued to inflict pain on the Blues, trapping Trent McCormick lbw with the very first ball of the innings. Carlton resumes at 1/7 next Saturday.

Prahran had a field-day at Hawthorn-Monash Uni, compiling 5/345 declared off just 72.2 overs. Daniel Salpietro (100*) notched his fourth Premier century, David Hussey (53 off 72 balls, 6 fours, 3 sixes), Adam Bull (65 off 62 balls, 10 fours) and Neil Schlittler (85 off 77 balls, 10 fours, 3 sixes) all contributed. In reply the Hawks reached 2/40 at the close, with Rhys Adams (2/12 off 5) taking his season's tally to 42 wickets at just 12.98.patto_effort_ball_r19

Frankston Peninsula (125) and Melbourne (6/101) are locked in an intriguing battle at the Albert Ground. Chris Thompson (5/20) did most of the damage for the Demons, whilst Scott Boland (3/31) bowled with genuine pace for the Heat.

Lions' all-rounder Peter Dickson, with career-best figures of 7/42, has ensured Fitzroy Doncaster has the upper-hand against Camberwell Magpies. The Pies were bowled out for 226, with just skipper Simon Hill (40) and Tom Rickarby (42no) putting up much resistance. The Lions resume on 0/5 next Saturday.

Footscray Edgewater (3/138) will have an outright in their sights next week after bowling Casey-South Melbourne out for a paltry 76. Lucas Dredge (3/16) and Tallan Wright (3/15) ripped through the Swans batting line-up and Wes Robinson (102*) to go with his 2/1 had a great day.

Ringwood batted through the day against St Kilda at the Junction Oval, scoring 9/271. The Walsh brothers, Nathan (131) and Brendan (43), added a very handy 128 for the sixth wicket; it was Nathan's second ton for the Rams.

Melbourne Uni (3/27) has some work to do against Essendon (202). The Bombers' innings was under-pinned by Solomon Mire (75) and James Seymour (43), but leggie Fawad Ahmed (5/60) and right-arm quick Mark Stafford (3/41) both bowled superbly. Mire's half-century took his season tally to an impressive 710 runs at 37.37.

Essendon paceman Louis Cameron (3/17) then removed Leggett, Polkinghorne and Keely in an awkward 9-over session for the Students, who resume on 3/27 next week with a finals berth at stake.

Northcote (235), with Ben Peake (91) and Aidan March (58) batting well, put up a good fight against Geelong at the Bill Lawry Oval. Marc Carson (3/36), Cam Alford (3/24) and Dom McGlinchey (3/25) shared the wickets for the Cats, who resume on 0/5 next week.dcc_pink_stumps_day_02-03-13
