Inglis & Villani rewrite the record books

Commonwealth Bank VicSpirit stars Emma Inglis and Elyse Villani broke all sorts of records today when they added 369 for the first wicket for Brunswick Park against Melbourne at the Albert Ground.

Inglis (180no off 145 balls with 28 fours) and Villani (188 off 142 balls with 30 fours) had the Parkers away to the sort of start clubs can only dream of. They smashed the club's previous best opening stand of 220 between Calvert and Hildebrand in 1987-88 and then the club's best for any wicket, previously 305 between Melton and Norquay for the third wicket in 2008-09. It is believed the partnership is the highest-ever in Women's Premier history.

The pair now heads the season WP1 batting aggregates - Villani with 627 runs at 62.70 from 11 games and Inglis with 623 runs at 51.92 from 16 games. A third Brunswick Park batter Tammy Norquay is third with 553 runs at 29.11 from 23 matches.

Brunswick Park finished on a formidable 1/412 after 50 overs. Restricting Melbourne to 5/182, Brunswick Park won by the handsome margin of 230 runs.

In other matches today, Kelly Applebee (91) and Julie Hunter (4/24) starred for Dandenong in the win over Box Hill and Essendon Maribyrnong Park (4/212 - Nat Schilov 87) defeated Plenty Valley (8/211 - Jess Cameron 81) with 25 balls to spare in a reasonably tight game at Windy Hill.
